Holiday Tips
Eat Mindfully
Balance indulgences: Enjoy holiday treats, but pair them with nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
Portion control: Use smaller plates to avoid overeating at parties or gatherings.
Eat a healthy snack prior to an event: Eat food like a healthy salad prior to an event so you won’t be as enticed to graze the unhealthy foods, and you will get full quicker therefore not overeating.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water—sometimes thirst can feel like hunger.
Keep Moving
Stay active: Even 10–15 minutes of walking, stretching, or yoga can boost energy and reduce stress. Exercise also assists in flushing waste, which can be harmful to the skin. It can also increase collagen production, promote cell turnover, and increase the skin's ability to retain moisture.
Make it fun: Dance to holiday music, walk together as a family after dinner, or engage in a friendly competitive sports game.
Prioritize Rest
Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep per night.
Sleep reduces the risk of chronic diseases, improves immune function, regulates hormones, and improves mood and cognitive/ neurological function.
Sleep increases collagen production, enhances blood flow, reduces inflammation, boosts melatonin, which acts as an antioxidant, promotes cellular repair, and reduces the signs of aging.
Stay Germ-Free
Wash hands often with soap and water, especially before meals and after being in public spaces.
Carry sanitizer for when handwashing isn’t an option.
Get vaccinated if available and appropriate for you.
Stay home if you are sick to protect others from getting sick
Manage Stress
Stress
It affects your overall health. It increases heart rate and blood pressure, weakens the immune system, causes hormone imbalances, causes muscle tension and pain, affects your digestion, affects your mood, and increases risk of chronic conditions or complications of chronic conditions.
It affects your skin. It increases inflammation, exacerbates certain skin conditions, weakens the skin barrier that protects your skin from irritants and toxins, increases oil production, and accelerates aging.
Plan ahead to avoid last-minute panic.
Practice mindfulness with deep breathing, meditation, journaling, and exercise.
Set boundaries—it’s okay to say NO to protect your well-being.
Drink Smart
Limit alcohol: Excess drinking can weaken immunity and disrupt sleep. Alcohol can dehydrate skin and cause puffiness. Balance with water and hydrating snacks like cucumbers or berries.
Alternate with water and choose beverages with lower sugar when possible.
